Academic Members of Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine Developed a Diaper that Diagnoses Bacterial Infections in Babies

Istanbul University – Cerrahpasa, Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine academic members Prof. Dr. Zeynep Banu Güngör and Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcı Ekmekçi formulated a smart diaper (Pine Smart) that provides data for early diagnosis of infection-related diseases in babies.

After one and half year-long research and development process, the smart diaper reached the production stage. The final product is secured by patent nationally and internationally, and it is a first in the world.

A licensing agreement for mass production of the smart diaper signed between Istanbul University – Cerrahpasa and Arkan Group on 25th April 2019. The promotion and licensing agreement signing ceremony for the smart diaper (Pine Smart) held at Istanbul University – Cerrahpasa Avcılar Campus, Rectorate building conference hall. Arkan Group executives, Vice Rectors and General Secretary of Cerrahpasa attended to the promotion meeting hosted by Rector Prof. Dr. Nuri Aydın.

During his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Nuri Aydın pointed out that the Cerrahpasa Faculty of Medicine has become a notable brand as a consequence of diligent achievements and endeavors it presented.

“We took out a patent for this product which is soon going to be in supermarkets thanks to the collaboration between our academicians and industry. We are delighted that this project, we take pride as the university, reached to the production stage,” he added.
